Our Mission
Oasis of Hope Ministries, Inc. is a ministry of excellence, impacting the world with a practical message of faith, empowering Word-hungry people to experience and exemplify the God-quality of life.
Our Leadership
Oasis of Hope is led jointly by Dr. Braxton and Chalis Henderson, who guide the vision and mission of the church together. They are supported by a team of elders, ministry leaders, and volunteers, each overseeing specific areas of church life to ensure worship, teaching, outreach, and community programs run smoothly.

Our History
Oasis of Hope Ministries was founded in 2001 with a vision to create a space where people could experience God’s love and guidance while also addressing the needs of the community. What began as a small group of believers has grown into a vibrant ministry that blends worship, teaching, and service, reaching people of all ages and backgrounds. Over the years, Oasis of Hope has remained committed to spiritual growth, community outreach, and creating a welcoming environment where everyone can belong and thrive.
Our Leaders
Dr. Braxton & Chalis Henderson, Senior Pastors
Pastor Dr. Braxton Henderson and Chalis Henderson are the Senior Pastors of Oasis of Hope Ministries, joyfully serving with a heart for God, His people, and the work of the Kingdom. They are passionate about the development of strong Kingdom communities and families, and they believe in teaching and living God’s Word with clarity, power, and love.
As leaders, they value growth and discipleship and enjoy leading and learning alongside their leadership team, members, and partners of Team Oasis. They encourage every believer to walk boldly in the spiritual gifts God has given them, empowering others to fulfill His purpose and calling.
Pastor Dr. Braxton and Chalis are proud parents of Silas, Aldon, and Owen, and they are deeply committed to faith, family, and the community, leading with love, unity, and purpose both in ministry and at home. They live out their purpose through service at Oasis of Hope, Turning Point CDC, Sledge Institute, and other businesses and assignments God has blessed them to lead.
Ordained in November 2021, they were installed as Senior Pastors on March 29, 2026. As the children of the founders of Oasis of Hope Ministries, they carry a deep respect for the legacy that was built before them. After living in Pittsburgh, PA, they answered the call to return home to North Carolina to serve in ministry, committed to honoring the foundation and advancing the vision with obedience and faith.
They are excited about all that God is doing through Oasis of Hope Ministries and remain deeply committed to submitting to the Holy Spirit as they lead this great ministry.
Pastor Sidney Crews
Pastor Sidney Crews has been a faithful member of Oasis of Hope Ministries since the ministry was founded in 2001. He is a dedicated servant leader with a heart for men and for service to the Kingdom and the community God has placed us in. Pastor Sidney is married to Carolyn Crews, and they are proud parents of one son, Sinteil Crews.
Throughout his years at Oasis, he has faithfully served in multiple leadership roles, including as an Elder and Minister, and in January 2023, he was installed as a Pastor. He currently leads our Men of Honor ministry and oversees our Baptism Ministry, and he remains available to serve wherever God has need of him. Pastor Sidney is a true example of what it looks like to be taught the Word of God, grow in the things of Christ, and be used for God’s glory to expand His Kingdom.
A Tribute to Our Founders
Apostle Alvin Donald Sledge
Oasis of Hope Ministries was founded by Apostle Alvin Donald Sledge and Pastor Catherine Sledge on January 3rd, 2001. Apostle had the vision to empower believers through teaching, preaching and demonstrations of the uncompromised Word of God. His desire was to fulfill the highest calling and assignments from Jesus Christ. He witnessed the world change through Jesus Christ.
Apostle Sledge loved God and dedicated his life to the work of God’s Kingdom. Apostle Sledge was able to really fulfill his assignment to God by leading a ministry with purpose and impact. He believed that leading souls to Christ was not the end of his work, but only the beginning. Through Oasis of Hope Ministries’ numerous outreach efforts and collaboration with other community organizations, Alvin was able to help countless souls enhance their lives and tap into the promises of God through deeper understanding of, and application of the Word of God.
In ministry, he was organized and always required that the entire ministry operate in a “Spirit of Excellence”. He continually trained Pastor Catherine and others so that each would know how to conduct ministry pleasing to God. He loved Pastor Catherine and considered her to be his soulmate and best friend. He had a special relationship with his three daughters, grandsons and son-in-laws. He cherished his relationship with the Men of Honor at Oasis and wanted each Oasis family member to understand their life’s purpose through Jesus Christ. Apostle Sledge transitioned on May 10, 2019.
We will always honor and continue the legacy of our leader, spiritual Father, Apostle and friend --- Apostle Alvin Donald Sledge.
Pastor Emerita Catherine Humphrey
Catherine Humphrey serves as the Senior Pastor of Oasis of Hope Ministries. She was blessed to be trained by her late husband, Apostle Alvin Sledge and to see first-hand what it meant to serve not only the church, but also to have the community at heart.
Pastor Catherine can be found putting God's word into action as she fulfills the scripture Nehemiah 4:6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work. For the past 25 years she had worked faithfully to teach God's word, inspire people to go beyond what they thought they could accomplish in life and to do all this with true passion and drive because she understands her God-given purpose in life. She overflows with joy seeing what God has allowed to happen not only through the ministry but also with Turning Point Community Development Corporation, Creating Success Education Center and the Sledge Institute.
"I have sense enough to know that ALL the ministry and community activities that we do have been a total TEAM effort. I surround myself with people who have a mind to work. God blessed me to unite in marriage with Gregory Humphrey December 21, 2024 and the two of us work faithfully together to serve in Kingdom Building. I always honor my three daughters, Dr. Chandra Sledge Mathias, Casha Palmer and Pastor Chalis Henderson. I have awesome son-in-laws and five amazing grandsons. My family has always served by my side and for that I am appreciative. The Oasis family has shown nothing but love and support to me and my family."
Giving back to the community and serving in the capacity that God has blessed her to do can be seen on a daily basis in the life of Pastor Catherine Humphrey. She is now teaching 2nd grade at the Sledge Institute and is always proud to share that she has the following degrees: Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting from Vance-Granville Community College, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Master of Education from North Carolina Central University. She uses all the degrees and every fiber of her being to the glory of God.
