Don’t Wait for “Someday”—Live Your Purpose Now

What would you do if you knew you only had 100 days left on Earth?

It's a heavy question, but one worth pondering. When asked this during a recent service at Oasis of Hope Ministries, responses centered around three powerful themes: generosity, reconciliation, and quality time with loved ones. Interestingly, these same priorities dominated Jesus' final 40 days after His resurrection—a period packed with intentional ministry that literally changed the world.

The 40 Days That Changed Everything

After Jesus rose from the dead, He didn't immediately ascend to Heaven. Instead, He spent 40 days appearing to His disciples—not once or twice, but eleven times. He ate with them, let them touch His scars, and even hosted a beachside barbecue. Why all this effort?

Because Jesus knew His physical time was limited, and He needed to remove every shadow of doubt from His followers' minds. These weren't visions or ghostly apparitions—this was the resurrected Christ in flesh and bone, proving that death had been defeated. Over 500 people witnessed Him alive, making Christianity the only faith built on verifiable eyewitness testimony of resurrection.

Thomas gets remembered for his doubts, but here's what we often miss: even with his questions, Thomas kept showing up. He didn't let uncertainty pull him away from fellowship. And when Jesus appeared specifically to address Thomas's doubts—inviting him to touch the nail scars—Thomas responded with complete surrender: "My Lord and my God!"

Our Time Is Limited Too

Here's the truth we avoid: we also have limited time on Earth. We may not know the exact number of days, but the clock is ticking. So when does urgency kick in? At 1,000 days? 500? 100?

Jesus used His 40 days with laser focus—teaching about the Kingdom, demonstrating His power, and equipping His disciples for the mission ahead. He knew that without absolute certainty in His resurrection, their witness would crumble under persecution.

The same question applies to us: What are we doing with our time? Are we investing in eternal things—generosity, reconciliation, relationships—or are we waiting for some magical moment when we'll finally have "less time" to start living intentionally?

Because He Lives, We Can Live Differently

The resurrection isn't just a historical event we commemorate—it's the foundation of our entire faith. Without it, Christianity is just another philosophy with a dead founder. But because Jesus conquered death, we have:

  • Direct access to God through prayer

  • The indwelling Holy Spirit who comforts and empowers us

  • Hope beyond the grave that transforms how we face today

The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in each of us. That's not motivational speaking—that's biblical truth. And it changes everything about how we approach our limited days.

Take Action Today

Don't wait for a diagnosis or crisis to start living with purpose. Pull out that mental list of "what I'd do if I had 100 days left" and ask yourself: Why not start today?

Mend that broken relationship. Be generous with your resources. Invest quality time in the people who matter most. Build into God's Kingdom. These aren't bucket-list items—they're the daily rhythms of a life lived with resurrection power and eternal perspective.

Jesus met His disciples exactly where they were—in their doubt, fear, and confusion—and He'll meet you there too. Keep showing up. Keep seeking Him. Your doubts don't disqualify you; they're part of the journey.

Prayer: Father, we thank You that because You live, we can face tomorrow without fear. Help us recognize that our time is limited and precious. Give us courage to live generously, pursue reconciliation, and invest in what truly matters. Meet us in our doubts and reveal Yourself as our Lord and our God. In Jesus' name, Amen.
