Make God Known: Living Out Your Commission Through the Power of the Holy Spirit

Why did Jesus stuck around for 40 days after His resurrection? He could have ascended immediately, mission accomplished. But instead, He invested those precious weeks drilling one message into His disciples' hearts: the Kingdom of God.

This wasn't casual conversation over breakfast—this was boot camp for kingdom expansion.

What Jesus Taught for 40 Days Straight

In Acts 1:3, we learn that Jesus appeared to His disciples repeatedly during those 40 days, proving He was alive and teaching them about God's kingdom. Think about that commitment. Forty days focused on one message. That's longer than most sermon series!

So what exactly is the Kingdom of God? It's the visible manifestation of God's comprehensive rule in every area of life. Not just Sunday mornings—every corner of your existence. Your workplace. Your relationships. Your parenting. Your finances. Everywhere God's sovereignty touches becomes kingdom territory.

Here's the beautiful truth: just as Jesus walked this earth demonstrating God's love and power, you've been commissioned to do the same. Not given permission. Not encouraged. Commissioned—given formal authority to act on God's behalf.

Your Kingdom Assignment Starts Now

The Great Commission in Matthew 28 lays it out clearly: Go. Make disciples. Baptize. Teach. These aren't suggestions for super-spiritual people. They're marching orders for every follower of Jesus Christ.

But here's where many of us get stuck. We think kingdom work only happens inside church walls during scheduled programs. Yet look at what happens when one person obeys their commission: A vision for an after-school program reaches struggling families. A mobile learning lab brings hope to underserved communities. Individuals are empowered when they  encounter God's love through through outreach ministries—families and communities are transformed.

That's kingdom expansion in action.

It starts when someone says "yes" to their assignment, however uncomfortable. It continues when they use their unique gifts and platform—education, technology, hospitality, whatever God has given—to make Him known. And it multiplies as others encounter God's love through their obedience and join the mission themselves.

The Power Source You Can't Ignore

Jesus knew His disciples couldn't pull this off alone. Neither can you or I. That's why He promised the Holy Spirit—the very power source that enables ordinary people to do extraordinary kingdom work.

Without the Holy Spirit, we're just working in our own strength, trying to manufacture results. With the Holy Spirit, we become visible demonstrations of God's love in a watchful world.

The question isn't whether you're capable. The question is whether you're willing to surrender every area of your life to His comprehensive rule.

Your Next Steps

Ready to embrace your commission? Here's how to start:

Identify one area of your life you haven't fully surrendered to God's kingdom rule. What are you still holding onto as king of that territory?

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal specific ways you can make God known in your daily sphere of influence—not someday, but this week.

Connect with your local church community. Kingdom expansion isn't a solo mission. You need the teaching, encouragement, and partnership of other believers.

Take action. Go. Serve. Share your testimony. Invite someone to church. The kingdom expands through obedient steps, not just good intentions.

Prayer - Father, thank You for commissioning me to expand Your kingdom. I confess the areas where I've held back, playing it safe instead of stepping out in faith. Fill me fresh with Your Holy Spirit today. Give me eyes to see kingdom opportunities all around me and courage to act on them. Help me make You known—not just with my words, but through my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
