The Supernatural Body of Christ: United for God’s Glory
What does it truly mean to be the Body of Christ? In this week’s post, we continue to explore the idea that the Church is not simply a gathering of people—it's a supernatural organism, the living Body of Christ, through whom Jesus continues His work in the world.
The Church as Christ’s Body
The central message is clear: the Church is the fullness of Jesus Christ on earth, called to make Him known everywhere through Spirit-led unity and service. Drawing from Ephesians 1:22–23 and 1 Corinthians 12, we’re shown that each believer is an essential part of Christ’s Body. Just as no organ in the human body is insignificant, every person has a unique role and gifting that contributes to the health and mission of the Church.
What does it mean for the church to be the fullness of Jesus Christ? It means that through His power, through His Spirit operating within us, there are no limitations.
Living as the Body: How Do We Respond?
So, how do we move from church attendance to living as Christ’s Body? Here are practical steps, inspired by a sermon delivered by Senior Pastor Dr. Braxton Henderso (Oasis of Hope Ministries):
Stay Connected to Jesus, the Head. Just as the brain sends signals to every part of the body, we must receive direction from Christ through prayer, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit. “The Holy Spirit will take what is the Lord’s and declare it to you. Therefore, you will have the mind of Christ.”
Pursue Holiness—Make War on Sin. Don’t make peace with sin or settle for complacency. Romans 8:13–14 reminds us that “if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Holiness is about being set apart for God’s purpose.
Have Compassion Like Jesus. Jesus saw the crowds and “had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). We are called to see others with His eyes and serve with His heart.
Serve as His Hands, Feet, Mouth, and Heart. Ask yourself: Are my hands serving others? Do my words reflect Christ? Am I willing to go where He sends me? As Dr. Henderson said, “The mouth of Christ is not a sharp mouth. It’s slow to speak, quick to listen. The hands of Christ serve and heal.”
Embrace Unity and Community. Just as the body needs every organ, the Church needs every member. Don’t isolate yourself—seek fellowship and support. “We are not designed to live this life alone, in isolation. Even Jesus had a crew around him.”
Why This Matters
When we grasp our identity as the supernatural Body of Christ, church is no longer just a tradition—it becomes a living witness to the world. The power, compassion, and unity of Christ are made visible through us. The truth is, the glory that Christ brought to this world cannot be made effective without the work of the church.
Take Action Today
Spend time each day connecting with Jesus through prayer and Scripture.
Examine your life: Are there areas where you’ve made peace with sin instead of making war?
Look for opportunities to show compassion and serve someone in need.
Plug into a local small group or ministry team—don’t go it alone.
Pray for God to reveal your unique role and gifting in His Body.
Let’s respond to God’s invitation to be His hands and feet in the world. No matter your background or past, you have a place in the Body of Christ. Together, let’s pursue holiness, unity, and compassion, so Jesus is made known everywhere.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for calling us to be part of Your Body. Help us to stay connected to You, our Head. Empower us by Your Spirit to pursue holiness, make war on sin, and serve others with compassion. Unite us as one family, using our different gifts for Your glory. Let Your love and power flow through us, so the world may see Jesus in all we do. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
